Low Voltage | Directive 2014/35/EU
Directive 2014/35/EU, which as of 20 April 2016 replaced the previous Directive 2006/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council dated 12 December 2006, represents the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits.
This Directive defines "electrical equipment" as all components, appliances, installations and installations intended to be supplied with or subjected to an alternating voltage between 50 Vrms and 1000 Vrms or a direct voltage between 75 V and 1500 V.
The Directive does not apply to machines and power tools subject to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
The manufacturer is responsible for the conformity of the product with the essential safety requirements established by the Directive, compliance with which is guaranteed by the full application of the harmonised standards establishing good construction practices and test and evaluation methods.
The manufacturer may affix the CE marking to the equipment after having prepared a technical dossier, carried out an adequate risk analysis and drawn up the EC Declaration of Conformity.
